Spring 2003

Greetings, SRO Fans

Spring is here, and despite all the craziness, we want all our fans to go out and enjoy the beautiful Bay Area. We have gotten many inquiries regarding our next public appearance. Scheduling conflicts have prevented us from locking in a Bimbo's date, but we are definitely making a public appearance this summer.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 1, SANTA CLARA FAIR FEST, EVENING

Yes, that's right. What a better way to spend a Friday night with your family and loved ones than eating cotton candy, corn dogs, riding the Gravitron, spilling your cookies, then dancing to SRO? Sounds like a party to me! Seriously, folks, playing the fair is a blast for the band, and you can bring the little ones. I promise it will be our PG rated show!

Unbelievably Fun Gig Dept.

For the second year in a row, SRO performed at a Mardi Gras party on March 1 in front of 10,000 party people at the New Orleans Superdome. We shared the stage with Credence Clearwater Revisited and Kool and the Gang. We had an unexpected treat when Aaron Carter, the grand marshall of the parade, jumped on stage and jammed with Omar on “Play That Funky Music, White Boy”. Aaron is a Disney star, and his older brother, Nick is with the Backstreet Boys. Aaron did a stellar job, and I have dubbed him the “Macauley Caulkin” of rock.

Baseball Is Back Dept.

You may or may not recall that I had the honor of playing “God Bless America” on my funky fiddle at Game Four of the World Series at Pac Bell Park. Those smoking Giants have been kind enough to ask me back to do our National Anthem on Sunday, May 4, a day game versus the new and improved Phillies. Come out and root for your favorite team (and your favorite fiddler!).

SRO Talent Dept.

Many of our SRO band members perform with other wonderful groups and musicians. We have two of note presently. I had the pleasure of seeing our bassist Dewayne Pate perform at the Mystic in Petaluma with Robben Ford and the Robben Ford Band. Robben is one of our greatest guitarists and has played with the likes of Miles Davis and Joni Mitchell. The 4-piece band was smoking, and Dewayne took a remarkable solo as well.

SRO sax man Johnnie Bamont has also been doing groovy gigs with legendary trumpeter Greg Adams. Greg is one of the original Tower of Power horn men, and he is currently burning up the smooth jazz charts with his newest CD “Midnight Morning”. A tip of the SRO hat to both of these SRO veterans.

That's it for now. Please stay tuned to the web site and noozletter, and we will let you know as soon as we book more public events. Otherwise, thanks to all for your continued support of SRO. We hope you are all staying cool and calm in these crazy times.

Peace & Love,

“Maestro” Dick Bright, bandleader, SRO
